Microsoft® Windows® provide several support tools which can help the user in diagnosing and fixing computer problems. However, many of the support tools are built into the operating system and can be opened by a user through Help and support center. If you are seeking some additional tools, you can download it form the Windows® CD. This article will shed some light on some of the most commonly used Microsoft® Windows® Support tools.

Using Device Manager

In order to perform certain tasks, you might have to be logged on as an administrator.

Device Manager provides you with information about how the hardware on your computer is installed and configured, how the hardware of your computer interacts with the programs installed on your computer. Moreover, you can also use Device Manager to update the device drivers for installed hardware on your computer, hardware settings can also be modified.

Open Device Manager

To open Device Manager, click Start, and then click Control Panel. Click Performance and Maintenance, and then click System. On the Hardware tab, click Device Manager.
 
Note: For using Device Manager related information, on the Action menu in Device Manager, click Help.  

Using System Information

Your system configuration information is collected and displayed by System Information. To resolve your system problem, support technicians require specific information about your computer. To quickly find the data you need, you can use System Information.

Open System Information

To open System Information, click Start, and then click Run. In the Open box, type msinfo32.exe.

Using Performance

In order to perform certain tasks, you might have to be logged on as an administrator.

The Windows® Performance tool consist of two parts: System Monitor and Performance Logs and Alerts. System Monitor allows you to collect and view real-time data about memory, disk, processor, network, and other activity in graph, histogram, or report form. With Performance Logs and Alerts, logs can be configured to records performance data and set system alerts to notify you when a particular counter's value is above or below a defined threshold.

Open Performance

To open Performance, click Start, click Control Panel, click Performance and Maintenance, click Administrative Tools, and then double-click Performance.

For more using Performance Logs and Alerts related information, in Performance, on the Action menu, click Help. For more using System Monitor related information, in the console tree, click System Monitor, and then, on the System Monitor toolbar, click the Help button.
